Influencer Rianne Meijer Reveals How Fake "Perfect" Pictures Are

We know Instagram as a highlight reel. And yes, we're so used to it that we also kind of expect to see perfection on the social media platform. And Instagram influencers show us exactly that. However, there is one female influencer who decided that it's time for change. On top of posting "perfect" pictures, the Dutch influencer Rianne Meijer shares some rather funny outtakes, thereby revealing how fake Instagram can be!

Rianne lives in Amsterdam with her boyfriend and her two adorable puppies Harvey and Rosie - and her Instagram account is filled with pictures of the four of them! As you can tell from the above Instagram post, she doesn't mind showing herself at her best but there's more to her than seeming perfection...

Outtakes That Show What Reality Looks Like

It doesn't take long until you stumble upon Rianne's hilarious outtakes. Below this post she jokingly comments: "During hairdresser vs. after hairdresser" - and boy, does that make a difference! A different angle, better lighting and a cute pose - and Rianne looks like a completely different person. It's kind of nice to see that no-one looks perfect at all times, right?

She was Very Nervous, When She Posted Her First "Imperfect" Picture

Rianne shared her first "imperfect" post moments before boarding a plane in Berlin. She says that she was pretty nervous about it. Posting content that doesn't match your previous posts can be harmful for your social media presence - sticking to a concept seems to be the norm in the business. She posted an outtake anyway - and people apparently loved it! She received a ton of positive feedback, even from companies she had cooperations with.

The double chin is one of Rianne's frequently recurring poses. With her legendary "butt squeeze"-pose, she has even started a body positivity challenge! If you haven't heard of it, you should definitely check it out and maybe even try it. This is how the butt squeeze challenge works: First, Rianne shows herself from a good angle, making it look like she's never heard of the concept of "cellulites". But then - she squeezes her butt. And you know what happens now. Yep, she actually does have cellulites. Phew, she's a human woman after all. 

The Posts Encourage Her Followers to Feel Comfortable in Their Own Skin

Rianne admits that of the 200 pictures she takes for an Instagram post, probably only one will make it onto her grid. 200 pictures? And only one of them is instagrammable? Now we know how fake most of the images we see on Instagram actually are. Rianne shows everyone who thought that influencers "simply look perfect" that that's not the case. It's all about the right angle and good lighting.

Can we trust Instagram posts? Often, they are edited to such a degree that they have nothing left in common with the person who posted it. It's way too easy to make your photos look like a "more perfect" version of, as if you weren't absolutely perfect in the first place.

Believe it or not, we all look different after a yummy meal! Even Rianne seems to be incredulous as to the difference between the two versions of her: "hahah how am I even the same person on both pics, angles people I’m telling you, angles."

It's a Question of Perspective

Both pictures are undoubtedly beautiful, but we instantly know which one society would value more highly. The one with the smooth skin that doesn't look like normal skin does. Normal skin has pimples and cellulite, it moves and thus displays skin folds. Rianne again gives us some perspective on the "perfect body".
