Fact #3: Pluto's Surface Area is Only a bit Larger Than Russia
Up until 2015, scientists had believed (i.e. approximately measured) Pluto to be smaller in terms of its surface area than Russia. However, NASA's New Horizon mission corrected the previously assumed surfaced area from 16,647,940 square kilometers to 17,646,012 square kilometers. This means: Pluto is a bit bigger than Russia, which has a surface area of 17,125,191 square kilometers. Still pretty fascinating, right?
